I'm a little confused about the illustrations.they say they're Tolkein's (and the maps that are well know to any previous reader certainly are) but it also shows watercolor images in the Amazon reviews, that are decidedly NOT Tolkien's (they look like they're from a different edition, one that I have which is three hardbound volumes with art by (Alan Lee? Brian Froud? Someone along those lines), which were done after the movies (many are based on the visualizations created for the movies.
